Ivo Camilo, a machine operator who has worked at the Blue Diamond almond plant in Sacramento for 35 years, was fired last year for wanting to form a union in his workplace. He says, "The Employee Free Choice Act would increase the penalties so employers would have to think hard about firing union supporters - and it would help people fired during organizing drives get back to work sooner."
The Employee Free Choice Act (H.R. 800) is recently introduced legislation that would make it more difficult for employers to keep workers from bargaining for better wages and benefits. If passed, the bipartisan bill will strengthen penalties for employers that interfere with workers' rights to join a union.
